The King Tomislav monument is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city of Zagreb, an equestrian sculpture that welcomes passengers every day at the Main Railway Station and at the same time dominates the city view of the Lower Town. The story of the monument, from the idea of erecting it through the casting and long-term polemics about the place and method of installation to the final installation and the changes that took place on it during almost the entire century, is an extremely important and interesting segment of our history and the history of art that is not known to the general public. The exhibition tried to encompass all these elements and show its historical and artistic value through the materials of the HAZU Gliptotheque, which keeps original plaster models and sketches for the monument by Robert Frangeš Mihanović, rich photo documentation and archival materials, as well as sketches from the competition for replacement reliefs for the monument .
Author of the exhibition: Filip Turković-Krnjak, senior curator of the HAZU Gliptotheque
